Alexsa is a well-loved, family-run salon in the heart of Mansfield, named after the owners’ two eldest sons. For over 25 years, Jenny has proudly run the salon, building a loyal client base and a reputation for personal, high-quality service.
Now at a stage where she wants to spend more time with her grandchildren and gradually step back from the day-to-day, owner Jenny had a clear ambition: to reduce her workload and create financial headroom.
The ask of R2G was clear: help reduce costs across the building by making it more sustainable, so Jenny could reduce her client load. We worked with Jenny to identify ways to cut unnecessary costs and improve efficiency without disrupting the welcoming environment she had worked so hard to create.
R2G pinpointed the most efficient electric heaters and recommended making them the primary source of heat, while switching off less efficient units at the plug to cut unnecessary power use. Big-ticket upgrades like new insulation or a full heating system replacement were ruled out because they didn’t align with Jenny’s plans, and the salon needed to stay open without disruption.
On paper, hot water system changes looked like a potential win. In practice, they would have required closing the salon - not an option for a client-focused business. R2G’s analysis ensured Jenny avoided a costly, high-disruption route, keeping her team and clients unaffected while still targeting real savings.
R2G identified a lighting revamp with efficient fittings and small day-to-day changes in heating and appliance use as the best-fit solution. This approach required minimal investment, created zero downtime, and delivered tangible energy and cost savings - all while preserving the warm, welcoming environment Alexsa is known for.
Focusing on practical, low-disruption solutions that were relatively low cost R2G identified 10% saving annually. Instead of major heating or hot water upgrades, Jenny should target lighting improvements and behavioural changes to get the best results.
Working with the R2G team was an absolute pleasure. From the very first conversation, they made everything feel easy, were quick to respond and flexible. They really took the time to understand us and the story behind our salon, which meant a lot. The final report was clear and incredibly useful, it was delivered on time and achieved exactly what I wanted.

We focused on the kit driving costs and future-proofed upgrades against industry standards and regulatory shifts.
For Alexsa, we delivered a clear, staged action plan which prioritised quick wins and low-cost changes providing Jenny more freedom and time to spend with her grandchildren.
A clear business case gave Jenny confidence in the numbers before making a final decision, with R2G managing the project end to end and ready to move delivery forward as soon as the solutions were agreed.
