St Peter’s Primary School is a welcoming Church of England school in Mansfield, committed to providing a nurturing environment where pupils can learn, grow and thrive. Over recent years, the school has taken positive steps to improve its buildings and estate, investing in upgrades, participating in sustainability initiatives and embedding good day-to-day energy management practices.
With an active site team and a clear focus on making the best use of available budgets, the school wanted to understand where future investment would deliver the greatest value. Through a detailed Energy Audit and estate review, R2G helped the school assess the relative benefits of different improvement opportunities, providing a clear roadmap to support maintenance planning, budget management and future decision-making.
The school was already considering a number of improvement projects and wanted confidence that future spending was being directed towards the right opportunities.
Using site data and financial analysis, we helped the school prioritise improvements based on likely impact, cost and timing, creating a clearer investment pathway for future estate planning.
The review identified opportunities to optimise when energy was being used rather than simply reducing consumption. By shifting certain electrical loads to lower-cost periods, the school could take advantage of cheaper electricity tariffs and reduce running costs without affecting day-to-day operations.
This analysis also provided greater visibility of the operating costs associated with different spaces, helping inform decisions around room utilisation, community use and external lettings.
Whilst some opportunities required longer-term planning and investment, we also identified a range of practical improvements that could be implemented quickly and at low cost. This ensured the school could begin capturing savings immediately while developing a roadmap for larger projects in the future.
By combining short-term actions with longer-term planning, the review provided a balanced approach that delivers value now whilst supporting ongoing estate improvement over time.
St Peter's received a prioritised roadmap of opportunities designed to reduce operating costs, improve estate performance and support future maintenance planning.
Rather than viewing projects in isolation, the school now has a clearer understanding of how different improvements fit together, enabling investment to be prioritised more effectively and future savings to be reinvested into further estate upgrades.
R2G were easy to work with from start to finish and took the time to understand what we had already achieved as a school. Rather than producing a lengthy report, they helped us understand which opportunities were worth pursuing, how different projects fit together and where future investment would have the greatest impact. The recommendations were clear, practical and backed by evidence, giving us confidence to make informed decisions and plan improvements over the coming years.
We recognised that St Peter's had already implemented many of the common energy-saving measures and had a strong foundation in place. As a result, we focused on identifying the next stage of opportunities that would deliver meaningful value.
Our approach considered how maintenance activities, operational improvements and capital investments could work together. This helped the school move from a list of standalone projects to a coordinated plan for improving the estate over time.
The outcome was more than an Energy Audit. Rather than simply identifying opportunities, we helped the school understand how recommendations could be prioritised, planned and delivered as part of a wider estate strategy.
